Top six seeds (3 from each division) receive a first round bye.
Higher seed is always the home team. Only time equal seeds could possibly meet is in the Championship Game. This game will be played on a neutral site if available. If a neutral site is not avaialable, a rotation between the two divisions will occur. In even years, the Red Division Champion will host the MALA Championship game. In odd years, the White Division Champion will host the Championship game.
City Tournament Champion advances to Wisconsin State Tournament. In 2008, the State Tournament is held in Madison, and both teams in the Championship Game advance.
Divisional Seeding Tie-breakers:
In the event of a tie for first place and/or other places in the regular-season division standings, the tie-breaking procedures for MALA Championship Tournament seeding shall be as follows. The tie-breaking procedure is done only among Division opponents unless otherwise specified in the tie-breaking criteria.
Two-Way Ties:
In the event of a two-way tie, the seed positions are determined by:
- Head-to-head record
- Record against Division opponents in descending order starting with the highest seeded team
- Goal Differential between tied teams (maximum ten goals per game)
- Goal Differential in descending order starting with the highest seeded team (maximum ten goals per game)
- Record against mutual opponents in the opposite division in descending order starting with the highest seeded team in the opposite division.
- If the above formula is inconclusive, conduct a coin flip to determine the highest seeded team(s).
Multiple Ties:
In the event of a tie with three or more teams, the seed positions are determined by:
- The team with the most games won against other tied teams collectively will be awarded the highest seeded position. The remaining teams are placed at the beginning of the appropriate formula for “Multiple Ties” or “Two-Way Ties” until all ties have been broken.
- If one team does not have a winning record (more games won) against the other tied teams; the individual records against the other division opponents in descending order starting with the top-seeded team are compared. When one team is awarded the higher seeded position by this method, the remaining teams are placed at the beginning of the appropriate formula for “Multiple Ties” or “Two-Way Ties” until all ties have been broken.
